NST Expands Smart Pond Toolbox with First Rubicon Installation

National Stormwater Trust recently completed its first Smart Pond installation using Rubicon automated water control technology at FDOT's SR 43 Pond 29 in Hillsborough County.

The project marks an important milestone in NST's continuing effort to modernize existing stormwater infrastructure through partnerships with leading technology providers. By adding Rubicon's field-proven automated control platform to its Smart Pond toolbox, NST now has another proven option for optimizing pond operations, improving treatment performance, and increasing operational flexibility for regional stormwater management projects.

The installation demonstrates how existing stormwater facilities can be upgraded with modern automation—helping agencies and property owners get more value from infrastructure already in the ground.

Mark Thomasson, P.E., will moderate a panel of state regulators and industry stakeholders discussing how Florida's updated stormwater rule is being implemented in practice. The session will explore real-world permitting experiences, evolving regulatory expectations, and practical guidance for engineers, developers, and local governments navigating the new requirements.

Panelists include representatives from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Southwest Florida Water Management District, The Nature Conservancy, and Geosyntec Consultants.

Nutrient Trading Under Florida's New Stormwater Rule: WQEA, RSMS, and Compensating Treatment
