Smart Pond Technology During Hurricane Milton

During Hurricane Milton, our CMAC-equipped smart pond at SR-676 in Hillsborough County effectively managed a remarkable 13.2 inches of rain in less than 24 hours—equivalent to a 200-year storm event. By proactively lowering water levels 24 hours before the peak rainfall, the system captured all incoming stormwater until the adjacent Delaney Creek flooded. The accompanying animation depicts the nearly 3 feet of drawdown in advance of the storm’s arrival, showcasing our technology's capability in extreme weather. We’re proud of its performance and believe that broader adoption of this technology can significantly reduce flooding risks across Florida.

Recap: The Villages®

We were recently featured in an article highlighting our collaboration with Clymer Farner Barley on The Villages® and how their resilient stormwater systems performed during Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Brightstorm Project

We are excited to announce our collaboration with Brightstorm and PepsiCo to retrofit existing stormwater ponds near Orlando with our smart pond technology.

This initiative aims to enhance pollution capture and mitigate flood risks, resulting in significant benefits for our waterways and surrounding communities. With the potential to treat up to 100 million gallons of water annually, this project plays a vital role in advancing sustainable practices that support water quality improvements in Florida.

Engineering Tip of the Month

A common point of confusion with the new Florida stormwater rules involves how they apply to ongoing developments, especially for projects involving outparcels within previously approved master development plans. Here’s a quick breakdown using a typical scenario to help clarify how the new rule applies.

New Regulations and Nutrient Credits Explained

Webinar Recording: Available Now!

Explore the latest updates to Florida’s stormwater regulations and learn how to meet the new treatment requirements using stormwater nutrient credits (SNCs) from regional stormwater management systems (RSMSs). Led by Mark Thomasson, P.E., the session covers the new treatment requirements, non-standard options for meeting new requirements, exemptions and grandfathering provisions.
